Devil of a Drought
When I visited East Africa in 2023, it was still in the grip of a serious drought that had lasted over 4 years. Fertile grasslands were reduced to landscapes of dust, littered with the skeletons of once-abundant wildlife. The slightest breeze would whip up dust devils that easily reached 100' from the ground. Although droughts are not rare in parts of Africa, this particular one was among the most severe ever recorded, probably due to climate change.
