Male foxes do not spend much time at the den.  When this one showed up very late in the evening, he was immediately greeted enthusiastically by some of the kits.  The typical 'greeting' by fox kits is to sniff and lick the muzzle of the adult.  The soft light of late evening both deepened the colors and reduced distractions.
